Spring Concert: Sunday, 6th March 2016 at 8pm, Cathedral of Christ the King.

“War and Peace”

Part of the celebrations for the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising

Soloists: Helen Hassett (soprano), Jeffrey Ledwidge (bass), Rachel Manning (mezzo-soprano) and Peter Manning (baritone).

Also featuring the choir of St. Kenny National School, Kilpatrick.

Conducted by Fergus O’Carroll and Thomas Kehoe.

Accompanied by the City of Dublin Chamber Orchestra.

Part 1

The 1812 Overture (Tchaikovsky) –  Full choral version

Commemorates the Russian victory over Napolean’s Grand Armée.

Adagio for Strings/Agnus Dei (Samuel Barber) – Choral version

Barber’s setting of “Agnus Dei” to his “Adagio for Strings”. Used in the movie “Platoon”, this gives it associations with war.

Clare’s Dragoons (Aloys Fleischmann)

Lyrics by Thomas Davis (Young Ireland). It is a tribute to a regiment from Limerick fighting in the Irish Brigade of France by an Irish composer.
