We’re back! After two and a half years of Covid-enforced silence, we are beyond excited to announce that the choir will sing once again with our new season beginning on Tuesday, 6th of September! New and returning members are very welcome. There is no audition and musical experience is not essential. Registration will take place before the first rehearsal at 7:30pm. Rehearsals will then continue in our new rehearsal venue, St. Paul’s Church (Delvin Road), on our new rehearsal night of Tuesdays from 8pm to 9:30pm with a warm-up at 7:50pm. Looking forward to seeing you all there!
All Saints’ Music Festival
The second performance of our very special 50th anniversary season is approaching and we are not even two months into the season yet!! We are thrilled to be part of an amazing musical lineup on Saturday, 20th October at 8pm in All Saints’ Church, Mullingar! We enjoyed so much performing in this beautiful and welcoming setting two years ago and we are overjoyed to be invited back to be part of the music festival again, particularly in this special year of celebration for Mullingat Choral Society. Admission is free but there willba an opportunity to donate to another fantastic local cause, T.E.A.M. so we hope to see a great turnout on the night!
First Performance of 50th Anniversary Season!
Rehearsals might have barely begun but we are very excited to announce that the first performance of our 50th anniversary season will be a guest spot on Tuesday, 2nd October at 6:30pm in the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar in support of the amazing work of the community policing division of Mullingar Gardaí! Tickets (priced €10) will be available at the door on the night and all money raised goes to a great local cause so we hope to see you all there! Amazingly it will be 50 years to the day since the first meeting of Mullingar Choral Society in 1968! What a way to celebrate!!

Culture Night Recital in All Saints
All Saints’ Church on Church Lane, Mullingar play host to a fantastic line-up on Culture Night, Friday, 22nd September featuring Adele O’Dwyer who you might remember as the wonderful cellist for our 2016 Spring Concert and our Christmas Concert the previous year when she enthralled us with her superb performance of “Benedictus” from Karl Jenkins’ “The Armed Man”. don’t miss this opportunity to hear her again!
New Season Begins!
Mullingar Choral Society will commence our exciting new 2017-2018 season on Monday, 4th September at 7:30pm in St. Mary’s Primary School, College Street, Mullingar. We have a thrilling programme planned for our Spring concert this year with two brand new pieces for the choir, John Rutter’s beautiful “Magnificat” and the wonderful “Jubilate Deo” by Dan Forrest. All are welcome to our opening evening which will begin with a short E.G.M. to ratify the appointments of some committee members co-opted after the A.G.M. and registration. There will of course be some singing and no Mullingar Choral Society rehearsal would be complete without the obligatory cup of tea, a biscuit or two and a chat! Dan Forrest performing “Jubilate Deo”!
One of the exciting new pieces that we will be performing in our Spring concert next year is “Jubilate Deo” by American composer Dan Forrest. There will be a special performance of this piece later this month with the composer himself accompanying the orchestra (which includes our own Music Director, Fergus O’Carroll). Details are below for anyone who might be interested in hearing a preview of what this wonderful piece will sound like when we perform it in March!

The Gala Concert takes place in University Concert Hall, the highlight of which will be a joint performance of Dan Forrest’s Jubilate Deo, conducted by the acclaimed Dr. Andre J. Double the Festive Fun!
Mullingar Choral Society has not one but two Christmas treats in store for everyone this year! Not only have we our family-friendly “Christmas Festival” concert on Sunday, 11th December at 7pm but we are so excited to be giving our first ever performance at Mullingar’s annual Christmas Market earlier that afternoon! We will be on Mount Street at 2:20pm to get you all into the Christmas spirit before making our way the the Catherdal for rehearsal for the evening’s concert with our extremely talented guests Mullingar Town Band, soprano Joanna Harding and the angelic voices of the Musical Allsorts children’s choir! We have a really busy day in store next Sunday but double the festive fun!
All Saints’ Choral Festival
Mullingar Choral Society are thrilled to be performing at the third annual Choral Festival in the beautiful setting of All Saints’ Church, Church Avenue, Mullingar. The evening begins at 7pm and will include performances from The King’s Hospital Chapel Choir and Orchestra, All Saints’ resident choir and the cast of Mullingar Arts Centre’s recent production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” culminating in a wonderful and varied selection of pieces from Verdi to Bohemian Rhapsody and everything in between by Mullingar Choral Society!
The choir will be under the baton of Thomas Kehoe, our principal guest conductor, and will be accompanied by the always excellent Fintan Farrelly. We will also be joined on the night by soloist Joanne Harding, soprano. Admission is free but there will be a collection on the night to raise funds for an MRI scanner for Mullingar Hospital so please give generously to this very worthy cause! Refreshments will also be served after the concert to round off an evening that promises to be a wonderful celebration of music!
Exciting New Season Announced!
There is music in the air as Mullingar Choral Society announce the start of our 2016-2017 singing season will be on Monday, 5th September with registration at 7:30pm. We have a really exciting year ahead of us with, in a first for Mullingar Choral Society, a choir festival in October, our Christmas Festival in December, our Spring Concert which this year will feature classsic opera choruses, and we also have in store one or two surprises still to be announced! (Watch this space!) It promises to be a really wonderful year for Mullingar Choral Society and we hope to see many returning and new members in September.
We are not an auditioned choir, no experience or sight-reading ablity is required, so if you would like to be part of Mullingar Choral Society come along on Monday, 5th September. You will be most welcome! Our rehearsal venue is St. Mary’s Primary School which is located opposite Mullingar Garda Station, College Street, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

“Memorable” Spring Concert Marks 1916 Centenary!
Commemorations are taking place all over the country this year in honour of the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising and Mullingar Choral Society provided one of the highlights of The Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme in Westmeath. We marked this once-in-a-lifetime occasion with a very special concert entitled “War and Peace”, which took place on Sunday, March 6th at 8pm in the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar. The concert attracted large a large audience and the programme, which included Tchaikovsky’s magnificent “1812 Overture” followed by “Agnus Dei” by Samuel Barber, “Clare’s Dragoons” by Irish composer Aloys Fleischmann and culminating in “The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace” by Karl Jenkins, was met with fantastic reviews from audience members and local media alike! A very big “thank-you” and “well done” must go to all those who put in so much effort to make the concert such a huge success!
Culture Night 2015
Mullingar Choral Society performed at the anchor event of Culture Night in Mullingar, a concert in the Atrium of the County buildings among other such esteemed performers bas Moate Community School Choir (winners of the All Island Schools Choir Competition 2015), Celtic Chique and the Midlands Youth Orchestra. Come and Sing – Fauré Requiem
Come and workshop the sublime Fauré Requiem with inspirational conductor Bernie Sherlock on Saturday, October 17th in St Ann’s Church, Dawson Street, Dublin 2, leading to a performance with soloists and organ at 6pm. All singers are welcome to take part. Tickets costing €20 (or €15 for members of choirs such as ours that are affiliated to the AOIC) are available from Eventbrite.
Rehearsals Resume for 2015-1016 Season!
Rehearsals recommence on Monday, 31st of August in our usual venue of St. Mary’s Primary School, College Street as we prepare for our first performance of the new season, our inaugural participation in Culture Night! Our exciting programme for the 2015-2916 season also inculdes our annual Christmas concert culminating in a very special performance in March entitled “War and Peace” which is part of the celebrations for the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising. Culture Night 2015 – Friday, 18th September
Culture Night comprises hundreds of events across Ireland and overseas. Arts and cultural organisations open their doors until late with hundreds of free events, tours, talks & performances for you, your family and friends to enjoy. Lots of people get involved and this year, for the first time, Mullingar Choral Society will be taking part! The choir will perform at the anchor event of Culture Night in Mullingar, a concert to be held in the Atrium of the County Buildings. Stay tuned for more exciting information to come!
Avici Singers present “Americana”
The Amici Singers are a chamber choir under the baton of our own Principal Guest Conducor, Thomas Kehoe. The choir consists of some of Ireland’s best amateur and professional choral singers. Come and hear the Amici Singers perform a concert of 20th century American music. Highlights include Les Chansons des Roses by Morten Lauridsen, Tippett’s five Negro Spirituals, Somewhere Over the Rainbow from “The Wizard of Oz” and a selection of American spirituals like Steal Away, Deep River and many more.
This promises to be one of the standout concerts of the summer and they hope that you can join them on the night to listen to this fantastic selection of music sung by some of Ireland’s most talented singers. They are also offering tickets at a reduced rate of €10 to members of Mullingar Choral Society. Guaranteed you won’t want to miss it!!
The Annual General Meeting of Mullingar Choral Society will take place on Wednesday, 13th May at 8pm in St. Mary’s Primary School, College Street, Mullingar (our usual rehearsal venue). Recordings of our recent concert will be available on the night for a cost of €10 and we will also be announcing our very exciting programme for 2016! We will finish off the evening with a cup of tea and the opportunity for a chat. Excitement is building ahead of our Spring concert on Sunday, 8th March in the Cathedral of Christ the King . The choir, under the very capable batons of our Music Director, Fergus O’Carroll, and Principal Guest Conductor, Thomas Kehoe, are polishing their performances ahead of the big night! Rehearsals will move to the Cathedral on Monday (2nd March) followed by our always thrilling Dublin rehearsal on Wednesday when we get to sing with the orchestra for the first time. Emmet Cahill to Perform at Christmas Concert!
Mullingar Choral Society is delighted to announce the immensely talented young tenor, Emmet Cahill, as special guest soloist for our Christmas concert on Sunday, 14th December in the Cathedral of Christ the King. Mullingar native Emmet is a rising star in the world of classical music, having performed extensively in venues across Ireland from Mullingar Cathedral to Croke Park, and in North America and Australia as a lead singer with international Irish Music group Celtic Thunder as well as being the recipient of many awards. 7th September, 2014: Mullingar Cathedral 75th Anniversary Celebrations
Mullingar Choral Society were honoured and delighted to be invited to take part in the very special celebrations marking the 75th Anniversary of Mullingar Cathedral. The choir beautifully performed “Locus Iste” by Anton Bruckner a capella during the Mass and joined with the excellent Catherdal choir to bring the Mass to a close with the Hallelujah Chorus.
